Description
In ancient times, the Tamsui river was deep enough to park large vessels; when Tamsui open to business as a port, it has become a very important port area. "Douglas Lapraik & Co." is one of the top five foreign companies (Tait, Ckiangsu, Elles, Douglas Lapraik and Dent). In particular, "Douglas Lapraik" has operated the general trading business; additionally, shipping was it major business, which dominated Taiwan shipping routes up to 30 years and witnessed the prosperous development after Tamsui opened as a port. The ship "Water Dragon," that Dr. Mackay rode for travelling to Taiwan was operated by "Douglas Lapraik."
