Description

Recommended ProductsDifferent flavors of one-bite cakes and spring field pizza (available in winter only)The one-bite cake has different names in Chinese, including cake dumpling, dragon cake, or mille feuille (one thousand layers). It is a kind of moon cake-like Taiwanese cake with either sweet or salty stuffing. As it is really small, people can finish it in one or two bites. For this reason, it is called the one-bite cake. It is small, yet it should not be underestimated! This butter-pastry snack was inherited from the owner's grandfather. Therefore, it deserves the name "century-old shop".About a century ago, the great grandfather of Liao Tehung (the owner) started the business from running a restaurant. Before that, he was a cook for a Japanese club. After acquiring great culinary skills, he returned to Jiufen, his hometown, and ran a restaurant. About eighty years ago, Liao's grandfather, Liao Mucheng, transformed the restaurant into a catering service provider. At that time, the one-bite cake was the dessert of the feast. As it was round and looked like a shoe-shaped gold ingot, it became a necessary offering in rituals held in Chinese New Year and important festivals. It is said that from 10th to 15th of the eighth lunar month, the shop opened in the early morning to sell it; and instead of pieces, it was old in catties. Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine the popularity of the one-bite cake.
