Trail organizations and hikers from more than 38 countries around the world gathered to appreciate the film, earning universal praise, expressing their excitement to visit this beautiful cultural trail in Taiwan.

New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Bureau pointed out that the World Trails Conference is held once every 2 years. The 7th World Trails Conference first World Trails Film Festival duration is from September 26th to 29th, lasting for 4 days; the location is at Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The New Taipei City Government, Taiwan Thousand Mile Association and Xiao Qing-Yang studio moved forward hand in hand toward the World Trails Conference. The World Trails Conference’s first World Trails Film Festival will have 7 films in total for public presentation; the categories include mountain trail culture, cycling, jogging, and on-foot tour, etc. The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails broke audience expectations for mountain films with the way it was shot, cutting in with the Taiwanese ancestors entering the culture of the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails, melding traditional puppet shows, Chinese Orchestra, ancient hand crafted trails and elements of the Han pioneers’ adoration for Tudigong, were intertwined to show a modern day person walking the trail absorbing the history that it has been through and the lessons learned. The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails earned universal praise. Galeo Saintz from South Africa chairman of the World Trail Convention said:「We will choose this film for our film festival, because we saw our friends here take care of The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails with the way of handcraft trails. A unique cultural view is also presented in the film, showing us the beauty and timelessness behind The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails.」Alejandro Gonzalez and Inigo Bilbao Guerrico from Spain also expressed their desire to visit The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails in Taiwan after seeing the film.

Taiwan was an important landmark during the great age of discovery, The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails carry the development history of Taiwan and its cultural connection to the world with abundant living fossil ferns that have existed since the Jurassic age. Started off as hunting and migration trails for the natives, it became the Tamsui-Kavalan road system for people traveling between the Tamsui district in the north and the Kavalan district in the east during the Qing Dynasty. Carrying the cultural foot prints of migrations, pioneering and settlement development of our ancestors, spanning across 4 modern northern Taiwanese districts (New Taipei city, Keelung city, Taipei city, and Yilan county), currently many mountain trails are still the favorites for many hikers.

In recent years, New Taipei City has cooperated with the Thousand Miles Trail Association and local participants to conduct historical data collection, local interviews and trail exploration. It is expected to complete the mapping of the road network of the entire Tamsui-Kavalan centennial mountain trail system (North, Middle and South Roads) by the end of this year, and strive to recreate the Tamsui-Kavalan centennial mountain trail system within 3 years. This year, it was approved by the Executive Yuan as a priority example for the “National Greenway” initiative. In the future, we will launch a variety of leisure trails such as the leisure, challenging, long-distance endurance trails, etc. which will make The Tamsui-Kavalan Trails a must-see for a tourist pilgrimage to Taiwan.
